May 15th-Bursting at the Seams

,

Hello everyone, welcome to our May mid-month challenge "Bursting at the Seams".  Lets get ready for some summer sun, create a layout using a sunburst.  It’s as easy as that.  For all of you who have not created a sunburst before and may be a little intimidated please don't be, check out our tutorial HERE.

This month's challenges are being sponsored by 7Dots Studios.   7 Dots Studio was born in October 2011 from dreams and for dreams -and it is a baby of a group of scrapbooking friends, who created a perfect team having different experiences and skills connected to scrapbooking industry. From the very beginning we intended to create a scrapbooking brand providing great mixed-media quality papers with a bit alternative look. We wanted to be as versatile as possible – from clean, graphic designs to mixed-media, grungy collage look. I think we achieved our goals and we’re happy to see that many crafters and artists are interested in our designs!  You can check out 7Dots athttp://7dotsstudio.com/encza.

Please upload your layout to the right.  You have until May 28th to upload both challenges.  I can’t wait to see all the wonderful layouts featuring the young ladies in your life and please don’t forget to mention us on your blogs!  Remember you can't win if you don't play!  Also please remember to link your entry back directly to your post so we can comment.  Thanks!

Featured Artists

,

Good morning faithful followers, Brenshevia here with a little AAG news.  As you may have noticed we have implemented our weekly In The Spotlight featured layouts.  I wanted to take a moment to explain to you a bit more about this and how your layout can be featured.

Each week the featured layout banner at the top of the page will be updated.   It is ONLY updated with layouts from the previous challenge.  For example, this week we have our May 15th challenge going on, so we selected 5 from to be featured from the May 1st challenge  We will NOT go back to previous entries to spotlight, only for that week's entries so make sure you get yours in on time if you can!

Our selection is based on your timely entryhow well you followed the sketch and the details and composition of  your layouts.

If your layout is featured above, you may indeed grab a blinkie from our blinkie "storage room" and place it with a link back to our site on your blogs.

Well that's all for now,  lets get those layouts upload for this week's spotlight, happy scrapping!

Tuesday Tutorial

,

I found this tutorial by Laura Vegas on the Bella Blvd website and thought it was awesome for creating your own starburst pattern. I have used it several times.   What I like mostly about it is that you don’t have to stick with the design exactly as you see it below you can modify it (as I did) to make it fit your needs.

Step 1: For a full page sunburst background, you will want to start with a sheet of 12x12 cardstock.  Trace a circle in the area that you want the sunburst to "burst" out from. I traced my circle in the lower right section of the page.

Step 2: Using a ruler, or any straight edged item, you will then draw lines from the circle all the way out to the edge of the paper. These do not have to be evenly spaced and there is really no wrong or right way to do this step.
I only trace my lines to the edge of my circle being that I know I will place something over the circle eventually.

Step 3: Once your lines all drawn out the way you want them, number the pieces so that you know the order they go in. Start in one corner, and number them going in a clockwise order. This is much easier then trying to fit them together later. Once they're numbered, cut all the pieces apart.

Now that you have your pieces all numbered and laid back out, go ahead and select the paper you want to use.  I used Simple Stories Summer Fresh and Authentique Genuine.

Step 5: For each "burst", you will want to flip over the paper that you want to use and lightly adhere the numbered template piece, number side down.   You adhere to the back so your numbers doesn’t show.  You must remember to also flip the template piece over, and adhered it number side down, so that once you cut your piece and turn it over, your "burst" will be going in the right direction.

Step 6: Trim each "burst", place it in the appropriate spot on your page.   Whether it be a plain sheet of cardstock or the paper you are actually going to use for your layout.

Start with the corner pieces, and adhere them first. Then work your way in with the rest of the pieces. Don't worry if a piece or two slightly overlap.

Step 8: Make sure and SAVE your template pieces that you cut out from cardstock, so that you can use them over and over on additional layouts ;)  I keep mine in a Ziploc bag.
